TESOL Professional Certificate
This unique one-month intensive program (150 clock hours) focuses on the development of effective classroom teaching techniques to all levels and ages of English language learners, in both non-English speaking countries and to non-native English speakers residing in North America.
This course includes 130 clock hours of theory and methodology. Students will be required to engage in 20 clock hours of real in-class TESL practicum
Hours of Instruction
- Core Class
Core classes are conducted on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for 10 weeks which amounts to 80 hours of in-class discussion, and study of theory and methodology.
- Independent Study
Independent study is conducted throughout the course. This includes textbook and academic journal reading and assignment completion. Independent study amounts to 50 hours throughout the course.
Course practicum is the student’s opportunity to practice and apply knowledge acquired throughout the course. Practicum is considered formative and is conducted on a consistent basis throughout the course. Practicum comes in the form of teaching classes and observing experienced instructors. Practicum amounts to 20 hours of the SSU TESOL course.
Core coursework commences Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 8:00am and lasts 10 weeks. Independent study and practicum are scheduled throughout course on an individual basis.
